Frequently Asked Questions:

My child is interested in walk and talk therapy, how do I schedule an appointment for this service?

Great question! All walk and talk therapy appointments can be scheduled after the first initial virtual appointment. Why is that? Not everyone is a good fit for walk and talk therapy. In the initial session, we go over concerns, mental and family histories, and expectations you or your child may have for therapy. If your child has difficulty following directions, frequently runs away when experiencing upset, or easily becomes overwhelmed by the outdoors, walk and talk therapy may not be the best fit.

Where do walk and talk appointments take place?

There are two specific walking locations I offer current clients. The locations are in open parks, with clear walking paths. You will have the option to determine which location best suites your needs.

How does therapy work with parental  involvement when my tween or teen is in therapy with you?

The first virtual session will only include the parent/ guardian of the child seeking therapeutic services. This will allow you to share your concerns, your child and familial history, and express your expectations and goals of therapy for your child. Following the initial appointment, all further sessions will include your child and myself.

Is there anything I have to do before our first session?

Before our first appointment can be confirmed, you are encouraged to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation. This is to help insure that I can provide you with the therapeutic services you are looking for before you make a financial investment. Once we have confirmed that we would be a good fit, I ask that you fill out initial paperwork online prior to our first session together. This allows us to begin our work together rather than being preoccupied with completing paperwork during your session.

Do you discuss what is talked about in session with anyone else?

No, with some exceptions. I am required by state law to contact authorities or take precautionary measures in a duty to warn if a client were to express violent intent to harm themselves or others.  I’m also a mandated reporter and am required to make a report in cases of child neglect or abuse.

Do you accept clients who are in need of a sliding scale?

I designate a number of appointments a week specifically for clients in need of sliding-scale spots. These spots are based on financial hardship and clients willingness to fully participate in ongoing therapeutic services. Please address this in the initial phone consultation if you think it might apply to you. If sliding scale is set up, therapist has the right to revisit payment if finances or participation changes.

Do you service clients in other states outside of IL?

I am clinically licensed to provide psychotherapy services in the state of Illinois, and a verified Florida Telehealth Provider through the Florida Department of Health. Due to issued emergency orders to increase access to telehealth services during the COVID-19 public health crisis, there are many states that will allow licensure reciprocity.
