At this time, Our Reality LLC accepts Private Pay as well as clients who are interested in using their Out of Network (OON) benefits from their insurance plans. Payment via debit/credit card or HSA/FSA card are due at the beginning of each session. All major credit cards are accepted for payment. All payment methods can be directly set up for existing clients through the client portal button below.

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 48 hours beforehand. Less than 48 hours notice requires the full session fee to be paid, unless the cancellation is due to a medical or family emergency. Clients will receive a one time exemption (free pass) to this policy, and will be responsible for payment of the full session fee thereafter.

Insurance

At this time, Our Reality LLC accepts Private Pay as the primary form of payment. However, if you receive any Out of Network (OON) benefits from your insurance coverage I can offer a receipt ("superbill") with appropriate details for you to request reimbursement from your insurance provider. Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

  • What percentage of the fee will my insurance company cover?

  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?

  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

Benefits of Paying Out of Pocket

Oftentimes people assume that paying through insurance for specialty services is more affordable or cost efficient. Let’s break down why this is oftentimes misunderstood or a myth. In terms of cost benefit for paying out of pocket, most people have high deductible plans that they likely won't meet within the year. The cost of therapy when paying out of pocket is fixed, so there is no guessing with deductibles and co-pays, which can minimize the stress of dealing with insurance. This also gives you more flexibility and freedom to the format and scheduling of sessions. Some insurance companies are currently not covering 45 minute to 60 minute sessions, and have a max number of covered sessions allowed.

Another benefit of paying out of pocket for mental health services is that the work that you do in your sessions are kept confidential between you and your therapist. In other words, there is not a paper trail of therapeutic progress that is often required with insurance. This includes not having a mental health diagnosis attached to your health records, which can affect certain careers and life insurance policies. With private pay, you keep that third party out which eliminates the potential intrusion on the therapeutic relationship. Additionally, you are not limited to a specific number of sessions partially covered by your insurance provider. The therapist can focus on your wants and needs rather than what the insurance company wants them to do. This enables you to have more control over your care!
